A Hand-held Laser Scanner based on Multi-camera Stereo-matching
نویسندگان
چکیده
Most laser scanners in engineering are extended versions of tactile measuring machines. These high precision devices are typically very expensive and hardware modifications are not possible without impairing the precision of the device. For these reasons we built our own laser-scanner system. It is based on a multi-camera reconstruction system developed for fast 3D face reconstructions. Based on this camera system, we developed a laser-scanner using GPU accelerated stereo-matching techniques and a hand-held line-laser probe. The resulting reconstruction is solely based on the known camera positions and parameters. Thus, it is not necessary to track the position and movement of the line-laser probe. This yields an inexpensive laser-scanner system where every hardware component can be modified individually for experiments and future extensions of the system. 1998 ACM Subject Classification I.3 Computer Graphics, I.3.1 Hardware Architecture, Input Devices, I.4 Image Processing and Computer Vision, I.4.8 Scene Analysis, Stereo

متن کاملA Multi-Pedestrian Detection and Counting System Using Fusion of Stereo Camera and Laser Scanner
Automated vehicle counting technology has been in use for many years, but developments in automated pedestrian counting technology have been limited. Pedestrians are more difficult to detect, track and count because their paths are much less constrained. In this paper, we present an advanced pedestrian counting system using a stereo camera and a laser scanner. A mapping algorithm has been devel...
متن کاملAccurate stereo matching using pixel normalized cross correlation in time domain
This paper proposes a novel method for stereo matching which is based on combination of active and passive stereo 3D reconstruction approaches. A laser line is used to scan the reconstructed scene and a stereo camera pair is used for the image acquisition. Each image pixel is scanned at a specific scan time so that the intensity time patterns of the correspondent pixels are highly correlated. T...
متن کاملOn-Board Perception and Motion Planning for Legged Locomotion over Rough Terrain
This paper addresses the issues of perception and motion planning in a legged robot walking over a rough terrain. The solution takes limited perceptual capabilities of the robot into account. A passive stereo camera and a 2D laser scanner are considered for sensing the terrain, with environment representations matching the uncertainty characteristics of these sensors. The motion planner adheres...
متن کاملMapping and Localization in 3D Environments Using a 2D Laser Scanner and a Stereo Camera
2D laser scanners have been widely used for accomplishing a number of challenging AI and robotics tasks such as mapping of large environments and localization in highly dynamic environments. However, using only one 2D laser scanner could be insufficient and less reliable for accomplishing tasks in 3D environments. The problem could be solved using multiple 2D laser scanners or a 3D laser scanne...
